- Installing HoTMetaL PRO
-
- The HoTMetaL PRO CD contains HoTMetaL PRO, as well as a number of
- other tools and applications that you may wish to use to create Web sites.
-
- To install HoTMetaL PRO:
- 1. Place the HoTMetaL PRO CD in your CD-ROM drive.
- 2. Run SETUP.EXE (in your CD drive) from the Windows Run dialog or
- from Windows Explorer. The Installation wizard appears.
- 3. The main components of HoTMetaL PRO will be installed as you go
- through the wizard. To install optional components, turn on the check
- box for each component that you want.
- 4. The final panel for the HoTMetaL PRO Installation wizard asks if
- you also wish to install the HoTMetaL PRO Power Tools. If you turn on
- the check box, the Power Tools Installation wizard starts.
- 5. Turn on the check box, and click on Install...> for each Power
- Tool application you wish to install. The setup program for that
- application starts.
- 6. When you have installed each application you want, click on Next>
- until you reach the Configuration panel.
- 7. Click on the Configuration icon. HoTMetaL PRO will be configured
- to work with the Power Tools that you have installed.
- 8. To exit the wizard, click on Finish on the Finished Installation panel.
- NOTE: Some of the setup programs will prompt you to restart Windows.
- If you click OK, you may not return to the Installation wizard after
- Windows restarts. In that case, you will need to restart the wizard
- to add any additional applications and run the configuration program.
- It is preferable to restart Windows after completing the Installation wizard.

- System requirements
-
- HoTMetaL PRO runs under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0.
- Your system must have the following:
- - 80486, 33MHz (Pentium recommended)
- - 16 MB RAM
- - Super VGA display, 256 colors, 640x480 resolution
- - CD-ROM for installation

- To uninstall HoTMetaL PRO or Site Maker:
- 1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Settings, and then Control Panel.
- 2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
- 3. Choose HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 or SoftQuad HoTMetaL Site Maker Database
- from the list.
- 4. Click on Add/Remove.

- Installation issues

- Re-installing HoTMetaL PRO
-
- If you have to re-install all or part of the HoTMetaL PRO package,
- you have several options:
-
- 1. To re-install the entire package, including optional components:
- - Choose Add/Delete Programs from the Control Panel
- - Uninstall HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 and SoftQuad HoTMetaL Site Maker Database
- - Run setup.exe, located at the top level of the CD.
-
- 2. If you need to re-install any of the core components of HoTMetaL
- PRO (Editor, Information Manager, Site Maker):
- - Choose Add/Delete Programs from the Control Panel
- - Uninstall HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 and SoftQuad HoTMetaL Site Maker Database
- - Run setup.exe, located in the HMPRO4 folder
- - Run setup.exe, located in the CONFIG folder

- 3. To install or re-install Acadia Infuse ScriptBuilder or the Visual
- Dynamic Keyboard:
- - Run setup.exe, located in the HMPRO4 folder
- - Choose Acadia Infuse ScriptBuilder or the Visual Dynamic
- Keyboard when the appropriate panel is displayed
- - Run setup.exe, located in the CONFIG folder

- 4. To install or re-install user dictionaries, HMFX files, or
- optional conversion filters:
- - Run setup.exe, located in the HMPRO4 folder
- - When you are offered Compact, Typical and Custom installation
- options, choose the Custom option
- - Deselect everything but the component(s) that you want to install

- Site Maker installer appears to fail
-
- Sometimes the installer for SoftQuad Site Maker appears to fail or
- terminate abnormally. Each time that we have experienced this,
- the Site Maker files have still installed successfully. Please
- contact SoftQuad Technical Support if you have problems using Site Maker.

- Installer fails on NT systems without 16-bit support
-
- If your PC is running Windows NT and 16-bit support has
- been removed, the HoTMetaL PRO installation program "setup.exe"
- will not run. In this case you should run the program "install.exe"
- in the HMPRO4 folder on the CD.

- Versions installer sometimes fails
-
- The installer for Versions (a HoTMetaL Power tool) sometimes
- fails. If this occurs, contact SoftQuad Technical Support.

- HoTMetaL installer sometimes fails to register DLLs and OCXs
-
- If the HoTMetaL installer gives you an error message indicating that
- it did not register the required DLL and OCX files, you can complete
- this step by running a script, as explained here:
- - Copy the file fixocx.bat, located in the HMPRO4 directory of the CD,
- to your Windows system folder (usually windows\system)
- - Choose MS-DOS Prompt from the Programs menu
- - Change directory to the system folder
- - Run the script by typing fixocx.bat
- - If any errors occur, open the script file with a text editor,
- identify the lines that caused the errors (just look for
- the OCX or DLL name that appeared in the error
- message), and enter each of those lines individually at the
- MS-DOS prompt.

- Jamba installer reports DLL in use
-
- The installer for Jamba (a HoTMetaL Power Tool) may report that it
- cannot install because the file MSVCRT.DLL is in use. If this occurs,
- click on the Ignore button, and the installation will proceed normally.

- DataSpot installer requires fixed ID and company name
-
- The installer for DataSpot (a HoTMetaL Power Tool) asks you to enter
- an ID and Company Name. You must enter "SoftQuad User" and "SoftQuad"
- in order to install and use DataSpot.

- Should install personal web server before DataSpot
-
- If there is no personal web server installed on your PC when you
- install DataSpot, then the first time you attempt to access DataSpot
- you will get a spurious error message indicating that you cannot
- connect to DataSpot. Click on Reload/Refresh in your browser and continue.

- VRCreator installs DirectX video driver
-
- The installer for VRCreator (a HoTMetaL Power Tool) allows
- you to replace your current video driver with a DirectX
- video driver. SoftQuad does not guarantee acceptable results
- when using this driver.
