  3. Installing HoTMetaL PRO
  4.  
  5. The HoTMetaL PRO CD contains HoTMetaL PRO, as well as a number of
  6. other tools and applications that you may wish to use to create Web sites.
  7.  
  8. To install HoTMetaL PRO:
  9. 1. Place the HoTMetaL PRO CD in your CD-ROM drive.
  10. 2. Run SETUP.EXE (in your CD drive) from the Windows Run dialog or
  11. from Windows Explorer. The Installation wizard appears.
  12. 3. The main components of HoTMetaL PRO will be installed as you go
  13. through the wizard. To install optional components, turn on the check
  14. box for each component that you want.
  15. 4. The final panel for the HoTMetaL PRO Installation wizard asks if
  16. you also wish to install the HoTMetaL PRO Power Tools. If you turn on
  17. the check box, the Power Tools Installation wizard starts.
  18. 5. Turn on the check box, and click on Install...> for each Power
  19. Tool application you wish to install. The setup program for that
  20. application starts.
  21. 6. When you have installed each application you want, click on Next>
  22. until you reach the Configuration panel.
  23. 7. Click on the Configuration icon. HoTMetaL PRO will be configured
  24. to work with the Power Tools that you have installed.
  25. 8. To exit the wizard, click on Finish on the Finished Installation panel.
  26. NOTE: Some of the setup programs will prompt you to restart Windows.
  27. If you click OK, you may not return to the Installation wizard after
  28. Windows restarts. In that case, you will need to restart the wizard 
  29. to add any additional applications and run the configuration program.
  30. It is preferable to restart Windows after completing the Installation wizard.

  32. System requirements
  33.  
  34. HoTMetaL PRO runs under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0.
  35. Your system must have the following:
  36. - 80486, 33MHz (Pentium recommended)
  37. - 16 MB RAM
  38. - Super VGA display, 256 colors, 640x480 resolution
  39. - CD-ROM for installation
  40.  
  41. To uninstall HoTMetaL PRO or Site Maker:
  42. 1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Settings, and then Control Panel.
  43. 2. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
  44. 3. Choose HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 or SoftQuad HoTMetaL Site Maker Database
  45.    from the list.
  46. 4. Click on Add/Remove.

  49. Installation issues

  51. Re-installing HoTMetaL PRO
  52.  
  53. If you have to re-install all or part of the HoTMetaL PRO package,
  54. you have several options:
  55.  
  56. 1. To re-install the entire package, including optional components:
  57.     - Choose Add/Delete Programs from the Control Panel
  58.     - Uninstall HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 and SoftQuad HoTMetaL Site Maker Database
  59.     - Run setup.exe, located at the top level of the CD.
  60.  
  61. 2. If you need to re-install any of the core components of HoTMetaL
  62. PRO (Editor, Information Manager, Site Maker):
  63.     - Choose Add/Delete Programs from the Control Panel
  64.     - Uninstall HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 and SoftQuad HoTMetaL Site Maker Database
  65.     - Run setup.exe, located in the HMPRO4 folder
  66.     - Run setup.exe, located in the CONFIG folder
  67.  
  68. 3. To install or re-install Acadia Infuse ScriptBuilder or the Visual
  69. Dynamic Keyboard:
  70.     - Run setup.exe, located in the HMPRO4 folder
  71.     - Choose Acadia Infuse ScriptBuilder or the Visual Dynamic
  72.       Keyboard when the appropriate panel is displayed
  73.     - Run setup.exe, located in the CONFIG folder
  74.  
  75. 4. To install or re-install user dictionaries, HMFX files, or
  76. optional conversion filters:
  77.     - Run setup.exe, located in the HMPRO4 folder
  78.     - When you are offered Compact, Typical and Custom installation
  79.       options, choose the Custom option
  80.     - Deselect everything but the component(s) that you want to install
  81.  
  82. Site Maker installer appears to fail
  83.  
  84. Sometimes the installer for SoftQuad Site Maker appears to fail or
  85. terminate abnormally. Each time that we have experienced this,
  86. the Site Maker files have still installed successfully. Please
  87. contact SoftQuad Technical Support if you have problems using Site Maker.

  90. Installer fails on NT systems without 16-bit support
  91.  
  92. If your PC is running Windows NT and 16-bit support has
  93. been removed, the HoTMetaL PRO installation program "setup.exe"
  94. will not run. In this case you should run the program "install.exe"
  95. in the HMPRO4 folder on the CD.

  98. Versions installer sometimes fails
  99.  
  100. The installer for Versions (a HoTMetaL Power tool) sometimes
  101. fails. If this occurs, contact SoftQuad Technical Support.
  102.  
  103. HoTMetaL installer sometimes fails to register DLLs and OCXs
  104.  
  105. If the HoTMetaL installer gives you an error message indicating that
  106. it did not register the required DLL and OCX files, you can complete
  107. this step by running a script, as explained here:
  108.     - Copy the file fixocx.bat, located in the HMPRO4 directory of the CD,
  109.       to your Windows system folder (usually windows\system)
  110.     - Choose MS-DOS Prompt from the Programs menu
  111.     - Change directory to the system folder
  112.     - Run the script by typing fixocx.bat
  113.     - If any errors occur, open the script file with a text editor,
  114.       identify the lines that caused the errors (just look for
  115.       the OCX or DLL name that appeared in the error
  116.        message), and enter each of those lines individually at the
  117.       MS-DOS prompt.

  120. Jamba installer reports DLL in use
  121.  
  122. The installer for Jamba (a HoTMetaL Power Tool) may report that it
  123. cannot install because the file MSVCRT.DLL is in use. If this occurs,
  124. click on the Ignore button, and the installation will proceed normally.

  127. DataSpot installer requires fixed ID and company name
  128.  
  129. The installer for DataSpot (a HoTMetaL Power Tool) asks you to enter
  130. an ID and Company Name. You must enter "SoftQuad User" and "SoftQuad"
  131. in order to install and use DataSpot.

  134. Should install personal web server before DataSpot
  135.  
  136. If there is no personal web server installed on your PC when you
  137. install DataSpot, then the first time you attempt to access DataSpot
  138. you will get a spurious error message indicating that you cannot
  139. connect to DataSpot. Click on Reload/Refresh in your browser and continue.

  142. VRCreator installs DirectX video driver
  143.  
  144. The installer for VRCreator (a HoTMetaL Power Tool) allows
  145. you to replace your current video driver with a DirectX
  146. video driver. SoftQuad does not guarantee acceptable results
  147. when using this driver.
